An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior experienced, dynamic, high performing Registered Children's Nurse to join the team as a Neonatal Shift Coordinator based at Wigan, Wrightington and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

Act as shift coordinator to effectively manage staff and patient flow to optimise care delivery, taking 24-hour accountability and responsibility for the given area. Take the lead role responsibility for identified quality roles/initiatives within the unit and develop and support staff in progressing these roles/initiatives within the unit.

On-Call

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.

  • Be visible, accessible, and responsive to the needs of service users, patients, carers and the public.
  • Maintain efficient and effective communication with the unit manager, matron and the multidisciplinary team on issues related to patient care, ward management and organisation.
  • Lead the team and build successful links between nursing and other professions to support and promote effective multi-disciplinary team working.
  • Lead service developments and changes in liaison with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Identifying what is required of self and others in delivering individualised patient care. This includes assisting with the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of these programmes of care within the agreed standards of care.
  • Demonstrating awareness of and participation in development to meet demands and adapt to the changing needs of the service.
  • Empowering self and colleagues to creatively meet professional and organisational objectives
  • Be actively involved in all aspects of the admission and discharge process.
  • Develop management and leadership skills and principles to develop high standards of patient care.
  •  Support the Lead nurse in his/her role within the clinical setting and take appropriate action when standards of quality, quantity and timeliness are not met.
  • Support the Lead Nurse in delivering the core values and beliefs of the ward/department.
  • Responsible and to provide visible clinical leadership to the nursing team promoting a culture of leadership by example to all staff.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse, Registered Nurse Child, Registered Midwife
  • Neonatal Intensive Care (405) module or equivalent
  • Teaching/mentorship qualification
  • NLS Qualification
  • Leadership course or willingness to undertake
  • Degree/Dip HE in Child Health

  • Evidence of level 7 study
  • Enhancing neonatal nursing practice course
  • NLS assessor
  • Significant experience in neonatal nursing

Experience

  • Neonatal experience
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for a group of infants.
  • Currently practising as a Neonatal Nurse in an acute setting
  • Evidence base for current NNU practice
  • Knowledge of current issues impacting on Neonatal care
  • Involvement of the Quality Improvement programmes within Neonatal Services
  • Ability to apply research to practice
  • Evidence of lifelong learning/ continuing professional development
  • Willingness to undertake further study and development
  • Mentorship and teaching

  • Experience of change management and willingness to undertake the extended role
  • Experience in undertaking Quality Improvement Projects

Knowledge

  • Understanding of Clinical Governance Agenda
  • Ability to discuss and implement research based practice
