Lead Tobacco And Alcohol Advisor

Band 4

Job overview

As Lead Tobacco and Alcohol Adviser you will work within the Trust’s Tobacco and Alcohol Care Team (TACT) to provide a seven day service for admitted patients and their families/carers and staff who require treatment and advice for tobacco or alcohol addiction

TACT is an exciting service which has introduced tobacco dependency treatment based on the CURE programme at Lancashire Teaching hospitals.   This has developed the pre-existing alcohol liaison team to include services for identified smokers. The introduction of the CURE programme has provided a medicalised approach to treating tobacco dependency and provided an on-site service for both patient’s carers and staff.

The role involves working in a team across both sites to ensure our service is responding to referrals and advice for all trust staff.   TACT work collaboratively with other teams and you will be required to liaise with other health professionals both within the trust and with our community partners.

You must have the motivation and desire to work with a complex and often vulnerable group of patients to achieve the best possible outcomes, improve the quality of care and contribute to the overarching agenda of tackling avoidable illness, reducing health inequalities and reducing demand on services.

Main duties of the job

  • Promote the general health and well-being of people who use the service through offering healthy lifestyle advice and support.

  • Undertake specialist assessments and provide personalised care plans and advice for people who want to reduce their harm from tobacco and alcohol or for temporary abstinence when in hospital.

  • Proactively support culture change and the promotion of a smoke free environment.

  • Provide advice and support to ward staff, including reinforcing the training provided to inpatient teams to reduce harm from tobacco and alcohol and the promotion of a smoke free site

  •  Ensure robust discharge planning for people wishing to continue with treatment following discharge with the community team, Smokefree Lancashire or CGL Inspire – community drug and alcohol recovery service.

Working for our organisation

We have 10 000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You'll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you'd never have done.

You'll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care and enhancing their experience which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.
