Do you want to develop your leadership, respiratory and Neurological Physiotherapy skills whilst working in a regional Neurosurgical Centre? The Neurosciences Integrated Therapy Team is looking for a motivated, caring, skilled Physiotherapist to join them in delivering excellent care to their patients.

The regional Neurosurgery service at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is delivered at Royal Preston Hospital in a 61 bedded unit, including a Neuro High Care Unit. An exciting opportunity has come about for a static Physiotherapist to provide increased stability and strengthen leadership within the Neurosciences therapy team. As the successful applicant, you will have skills in managing complex neurologically impaired patients with both physical and respiratory needs. This opportunity will allow you to combine your respiratory and rehabilitation skills to ensure your patient receives a holistic approach.

As well as a clinical role in delivering high-quality care to our patients you will also support more junior members of the team and students. You will be given the opportunity to develop your leadership skills by participating in service development with the support of a Clinical Lead Physiotherapist.

 

You will receive education and training through our Normal Movement and Respiratory Training programmes. You will also play an active role in the provision and future development of this training and other training to the Neurosciences team as well as the wider Core Therapy department.

We are a major trauma centre with our critical care unit accepting our regional neurosurgical and neurology patients at Royal Preston Hospital. You would be welcomed into a fantastic, established, multi-disciplinary team within Neurosurgery.

Duties to include but not be limited to:

  • To directly support the delivery of therapy to patients
  • To provide leadership and management support
  • To support personal and people development
  • To communicate and collaborate with all Core Therapies Service stakeholders 
  • To support service development and planning
  • To help to ensure the health, safety and security of users of the Core Therapies, self and colleagues
  • To support the Clinical Governance and Quality agenda within the Core Therapy Services 
  • To support equality of opportunity and access within the Core Therapies for both staff and patients.
  • To provide and use information to support admin processes and patient care
  • To support financial and other resource management within the Core Therapies

The Core Therapies department is committed to service development. The development of a 7-day service to enhance our patients experience is high on our agenda. You would be expected to participate in this when it is rolled out.

  • Member of the CSP

Knowledge

  • Previous varied experience within relevant rotational posts
  • Experience in managing and prioritising a complex caseload
  • Experience in the management of neurologically impaired patients.
  • Experience in the management of patients with respiratory compromise including tracheostomies.
  • Participation in on call respiratory rota.
  • Supervision of staff
  • Good understanding of MDT dynamics
  • Experience of evidence-based practice
