Job overview
The Neurology service at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is a tertiary specialist service, providing acute neurology care to a population of 1.8 million people living in Lancashire and South Cumbria.
You will be supported by a team of consultants, junior doctors, specialist nurses and allied health professionals to deliver care and develop yourself so the service is fit for the future and the changing needs of patients. This post is fixed term for 12 months.
Main duties of the job
The duties of the Locum Consultant Neurologist will be to provide outpatient sessions at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals and at a peripheral hospital depending on the needs of the service, but this will be discussed with the post-holder within the consultant job planning process. We occasionally may ask consultants to provide support to other peripheral hospitals, if required. This would be discussed with the appointee at job planning and the necessary adjustment to the job plan agreed.
The post holder will:
Participate in the on-call rota
Promote high standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by maintain their continuing professional development
Provide direct input to patients, contribute to multi-disciplinary teams and lead the co-ordination of care for patients within Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
Requirement to provide in-reach at local district general hospital site, to be discussed at interview
Contribute to training and teaching of Junior Doctors

The Neurosciences Centre compromises of both Neurosurgery, and Medical Neurosciences (Neurology, Neurophysiology, Neuroradiology including interventional neuroradiology, Neuropathology and Neurorehabilitation.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCP or equivalent postgraduate general medical experience.
- Within 6 months of appointment, must gain CCT in neurology or equivalent training obtained outside the EU leading to entry on the specialist register.

- Evidence of interest in personal development, e.g. through research and/or publications.
Desirable criteria
- Track record of research

- Wide range of clinical experience in neurology.
- Subspecialty expertise.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
