Main duties of the job

The Assistant Portering Services Manager will directly support and assist the Portering Services Manager in reviewing and operationally ensuring the safe and effective delivery of Portering Services to a high standard, implementing changes necessary. The role will involve contributing to the administration, professional development, leadership, retention, and motivation of our service staff and ensuring best value is provided to the Trust and external customers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide effective managerial leadership to support and motivate staff through effective communication.
  • Support and liaise with the Resilience Team and Department Managers when undertaking and supporting with coordinated risk assessments / audits.
  • Complete risk assessments and ensure they are added to the Directorate Risk Register.
  • Assist the Portering Services Manager in undertaking appraisals, identifying areas for personal and professional improvement and development.
  • To assist in the day-to-day planning and organisation of Portering service areas, delegating tasks as appropriate.
  • To ensure all documentation is written and electronically recorded in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
  • To liaise with the other services managers and supervisors when necessary to assist with the planning and organisation of ward / departmental opening.
  • Management of staff sickness / absence, grievance and disciplinary processes.
  • Assist in maintaining the service vehicles in accordance with the Transport regulations.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE standard
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft packages.
Desirable criteria
  • Health and Safety related qualification.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience in dealing with a large workforce.
  • Previous experience in dealing with patients and public.
  • Supervisory or first line management experience within Support Service areas.
Desirable criteria
  • Organisational Management Skills.
  • Knowledge of Trust Risk Assessment process.
  • Basic Health & Safety knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Trust Risk / Human Resource policies and procedures.
  • Portering Management / Supervisory experience.
