Lancashire Hospitals Services (Pharmacy) Ltd is delighted to be able to offer a vacancy for a Pharmacy Operations Manager.  Part of the role will require providing strategic leadership to our fantastic team.  If you like variety, then this is the role for you.  We are continually developing our services and are currently looking into opportunities to expand.  It really is an exciting time for the company.

Whilst having experience of working in an outpatient pharmacy setting would be advantageous, please do not be discouraged from applying if you haven't.

Please note full time hours are 37.5 hours per week worked over five days days.  Whilst having a visible leadership presence is an essential part of the role, there may be the opportunity to work from home one day a week.  This can be discussed and agreed as part of the interview process.

Main duties of the job

Providing managerial and strategic leadership for the pharmacy outpatient service.

Ensuring that contractual KPIs are met.

Ensuring compliance with GPhC Standards for Registered Pharmacies in conjunction with the Superintendent Pharmacist.

Ensuring safe and effective working practices with SOPs that are in date and fit for purpose.

Developing services to maximise company profitability; working closely with the Finance Manager.

Lancashire Hospitals Services (Pharmacy) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

We provide the NHS Trust with the outpatient dispensing service at Royal Preston Hospital, Rosemere Centre (within Royal Preston Hospital) and Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital.

 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide leadership and act as a role model for the staff of LHS Ltd.

Stock is always managed appropriately and accurately.

SOPs are in place to cover all activities.

Robust recruitment processes are in place including induction programmes and probationary reviews.

Training packages are in place to cover all core activities and are used to ensure that all team members are trained to the appropriate standards.

To ensure pharmacy stock is handled appropriately in terms of it being safe and secure.

To ensure that the pharmacy is developed and operated as a profitable business tailoring staffing and services as appropriate. 

Work closely with the Finance Manager to have full financial oversight

Pharmacy rosters are managed appropriately in line with budgeted costs. 

To be responsible for ensuring effective leadership and management of the dispensary teams including:-

Regular team meetings with minutes circulated.

Promptly enacting and following all policies and procedures, ensuring standards are upheld including those related to workforce.

Effectively communicating with individual members of the team as required including dealing with more sensitive topics and having difficult conversations.

Treating individuals equitably, fairly and consistently at all times

Compliance with LTHTr mandatory training requirements

Quarterly 121s are in place for all team members

Annual Appraisals are in place for all team members

To ensure that workload and resources are effectively managed across all three branches.

To lead (or provide support to the team leaders) on service development.  

Systems are in place where incidents are investigated including those reported by Datix or through PALs and appropriate actions plans developed/corrective action taken when required and Lessons Learnt are shared with the team.

To ensure all relevant risk assessments are in place and reviewed regularly. 

LHS Single Improvement Plan is maintained, actions progressed and where applicable updated with further improvements when they are identified.

In conjunction with the Finance Manager, prepare corporate and annual business plans and monitor progress against these to ensure that the company attains it's objectives as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible.

To provide strategic advice and guidance to the chair and members of the board, to keep them aware of developments within the industry and ensure that appropriate policies are developed to meet the company's mission and objectives and to comply with all relevant statutory and other regulations.

To establish and maintain effective formal and informal links with LTHTr (and future clients), key decision-makers and other stakeholders, to exchange information and views and to ensure that the company is providing the appropriate range and quality of services.

To provide direction and coordinate the work and resources of the dispensary teams ensuring robust recruitment and retention processes are in place.

Represent the company in negotiations with customers, suppliers and other key contacts to reach the desired outcome.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Qualified Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician
  • Registration with GPhC and evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate Leadership and Management Qualification
  • RPS/APTUK Member

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of all areas of Pharmacy Services
  • Detailed knowledge of Pharmacy Dispensing Services
  • Knowledge and practical experience in a management/leadership role
  • Specialist Technical knowledge of Good Dispensing Practice
  • Experience of workforce development
  • Knowledge of medicines regulation, legislation and clinical governance
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to others
  • Awareness of changes within pharmacy practice
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations
  • Knowledge of laws and principles relating to information security and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and Risk Management processes.
