The Bolton Acute Oncology Service is a very well established 7-day service, providing expert care, support and advice to patients, families and health care professionals.   The team has close working relationships with health professionals across the organisation along with tertiary centres and primary care health and social care providers.  The team are proactive in developing new ways of working and are therefore looking to appoint a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner.    

Main duties of the job

The post holder would practice under the direct or indirect supervision of the Consultant Clinical Lead/ ACP Supervisor in the acute oncology team to provide patient centred clinical care. This will encompass training in the skills of advanced assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of practice working within the acute oncology, MUO & CUP service.

The acute oncology service sits within the wider Cancer Services team at Bolton.     The acute oncology service provides support and advice to patients and health professionals throughout the trust.

We would welcome applications from practitioners with extensive experience of working in oncology to commence the ACP training programme.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for a hard-working, dynamic, highly motivated and experienced nurse with excellent communication skills who is keen to develop and train to become an Advanced Clinical Practitioner.    Prescribing and assessment skills would be an advantage, although training will be given to the right candidate.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Registered General Nurse
  • • Recognised Oncology qualification
  • • Evidence of level 7 study
Desirable criteria
  • • Level 2 psychological training
  • • Non-medical prescribing
  • • Leadership/Management Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Substantial professional clinical experience at a senior level in an environment providing acute oncology care
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of conference presentation or journal publication

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Be able to provide professional and emotional support
  • • Demonstrate ability to produce complex reports and formulate policies
Desirable criteria
  • • Advanced clinical practical skills

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Knowledge of anticancer treatments and side effects
