Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent full time Advanced Practitioner in Orthopaedics. This role can be a band 7 or band 8 A (AFC) dependant on experience and relevant training. If appointed as a Band 7 Practitioner, there is scope to progress to band 8 A role over 12-18 months following training and meeting competency requirements.

This role would suit either an experienced Advanced Practitioner looking for a new challenge, or an experienced MSK Physiotherapist looking to advance skills and develop into the AP role.

This is an opportunity to join an established team of Advanced Practitioners in the Orthopaedic Interface Service (OIS) primarily based in Bolton One, a purpose built modern out-patient setting. There will be some requirement for cross site cover based at the Royal Bolton Hospital supporting the orthopaedic service. You will be joining a very friendly and proactive team driven by our Trust values.

The Orthopaedic Interface Service (OIS) is responsible for triage of all MSK/Orthopaedic referrals received from primary and secondary care. The successful candidate will have opportunity to actively contribute to service development and collaborate with multidisciplinary partners.The Trust actively encourages research and leadership opportunities. Dedicated CPD time takes place regularly in the form of complex case discussions, Radiology discussions and dissemination of up-to-date new knowledge.

Main duties of the job

To be an integral part of the orthopaedic interface service based at Bolton One. Assessing and treating complex orthopaedic / musculoskeletal pathologies with a mixed caseload of spinal and upper and lower limb presentations.

Successful candidate will be supported with relevant training in place.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree in physiotherapy
  • Educated or working towards a MSc
  • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Working to / desire to Masters in ACP
  • Qualification in Non-medical prescribing
  • Masters qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence post graduate experience working at specialist / advanced level in MSK/Orthopaedics
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of clinical education
  • Extensive knowledge of managing complex and spinal musculoskeletal pathologies
  • Experience and demonstrable knowledge of requesting and interpreting Radiology and Pathology investigations

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent clinics skills such as history taking, physical patient assessment, formulating diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Management of a complex caseload
Desirable criteria
  • Joint and soft tissue injection therapy

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of MSK/Orthopaedic pathologies/injuries and associated psychological difficulties
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • Evidence based practice
Desirable criteria
