Job overview

This is a Highly Specialist Occupational Therapy role, with both a clinical caseload and a role in the leadership structure within the Surgery and Critical Care Therapy Team. The successful post holder will work alongside the existing Band 7 Physiotherapists  to provide the daily supervision and support needed for the Band 5s and 6s in the team. The successful candidate will support the Principal Service Lead with the daily operational and service development activities.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking, Band 7 Highly Specialist  Occupational Therapist to join the Surgery and Critical Care Therapy Team.  Band 6 applicants with appropriate experience will be considered. 

The team consists of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants.

The team is part of the wider Integrated Discharge and Therapy service and is part of the Integrated Community Services Division. The successful candidate will work as part of a health and social care multidisciplinary team.

Candidates will have recent and relevant post registration NHS experience and an interest in the OT specialism in an acute setting including working with frail, elderly people. They should be able to evidence recent self-directed learning and development. The post holder will work alongside Band 7 physiotherapists to provide leadership to the team.

Candidates will need to be able to travel to meet the needs of this post and will therefore need access to a vehicle for work.

You must have a genuine interest in working with older acutely unwell people, be self-motivated, enthusiastic, resourceful and comfortable working in a changing and busy environment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Diploma/Degree in a OT qualification
  • • Registration with the Health Care Professions Council
  • • Clinical Educators course or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • • Membership of professional body and or special interest group

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Extensive NHS clinical experience as an OT working within ward based setting
  • • Experience of supervision and management of more junior staff and students
  • • Experience of project management /service development

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to communicate effectively and flexibly and to adapt communication style to the needs of patients, carers and staff.
  • • Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate as appropriate and to manage time effectively.
  • • Ability to lead, motivate and inspire others

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Extensive specialist knowledge in clinical area of expertise developed through a combination of training/learning and experience.

Other

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to work flexible hours and out of hours based on the needs of the service
  • • Car driver with access to own vehicle subject to the provision of the Equality Act
