Job overview

Based at the Royal Bolton Hospital, you will be part of a dedicated team of IT professionals in a challenging environment. With a wide range of IT infrastructure and software applications, we can provide a comprehensive and structured career path.

Our Integration Specialists work with a range of HL7 interfaces making extensive use of Altera eLink and HealthShare/Ensemble Integration Engine to develop and support a whole host of healthcare integration solutions.

You will have previous experience building detailed HL7 interface between healthcare systems using middleware messaging tools (Altera eLink/interface sub system ISS) which will encompass previous experience of healthcare applications (PAS, EPR, Laboratory/Radiology, Pharmacy, e OBS, EDMS etc.) You will have extensive knowledge of Sunrise Clinical Manager (EPR) and associated database schemas. The successful candidate will manage the integration workstream on deployment projects delivering the full integration lifecycle-design/develop/deploy.

The role also requires C# and JavaScript programming skills to develop and maintain system interfaces. Experience of Windows Server platform and SQL Database technologies is also required.

Main duties of the job

With the direction of the Integration and Systems Development Manager:

  • Support the management, maintenance and development of the Trust’s enterprise integration architecture, implementing robust middleware and effective interface governance.
  • Design, develop, test and document all systems interfaces in use or required within the Trust, in line with the Trust’s Informatics Strategy.
  •         Provide ongoing support by analysing, monitoring and troubleshooting all aspects of system integration.
  • Assist and provide continued support of the implementation of the Trust’s EPR System / Interfacing.
  •           Provide support and training for junior members of the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  •    To understand the requirements of local healthcare providers and provide recommendations and advice on the best-fit systems integration developments for their service needs.
  •    To investigate Requests for Service and/or Change Control Notifications for systems integration developments, by means of meetings and/or telephone calls, and produce a report itemising the requirements in a format that is easily understandable to the user.
  •  Provide a support function with the Trust’s System Integration and Application Support environment liaising with the Integration Team and Application Support Team.
  •   Provide a support function related to Trust’s electronic document delivery strategy liaising with GP providers and partner Trusts.
  •  Provide a support function for the Trust’s EPR system liaising with healthcare providers and members of the Informatics Team.
  •    Represent the Trust in System User Groups and to ensure that the Trust’s interests are communicated to a wider system user base.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level in computing or equivalent experience’

  • Project management methodology qualification (e.g. PRINCE2)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience building HL7 interfaces between Healthcare Systems
  • Experienced user of middleware messaging tools (AllScripts/Altera eLink / Interface Sub System - ISS) and development experience with these tools
  • Significant experience with AllScripts/Altera eLink to build system interfaces between Sunrise Clinical Manager and other healthcare applications (PAS / Laboratory / Radiology / Pharmacy / eOBS / EDMS)
  • Good experience of Sunrise Clinical Manager application
Desirable criteria
  • Interface development with FHiR, XML
  • Experience building interfaces using Ensemble / Healthshare Data Transformation Language

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Detailed knowledge of HL7 2.3 / 2.4
  • C#, JavaScript, PLSQL, Rest API
