Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for an Associate Practitioner to work as part of a professional and efficient team in our busy Blood Sciences Laboratories.

The successful candidate will join our friendly team of experienced Biomedical Scientists and support staff.   The post involves training and rotation in all areas of the Blood Sciences Laboratory (Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Clinical Chemistry). 

Main duties of the job

The laboratories are equipped with three Sysmex XN full blood count analysers, two Werfen TOP coagulation analysers, Tosoh HPLC analysers, QuidelOrtho Vision Swift blood grouping analysers, Haemonetics Blood Track and Roche Clinical Chemistry. The laboratory is fully UKAS accredited, IBMS approved for training and has achieved MHRA compliance for BSQR in Blood Transfusion. 

The successful candidate will be involved with routine maintenance and operation of analysers, supporting the Biomedical Scientist team in processing samples and producing patient results for patient care. Full training in all areas will be provided.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to work as part of a professional and efficient team providing support to the Pathology Department, by assisting in routine analytical tasks and procedures under the supervision of State Registered Biomedical Scientists.

 After sufficient training and supervision, where competencies will be assessed, the post-holder will rotate through designated sections of the department as required.

 You will perform routine procedures involving scientific and technical work to aid clinicians in the effective diagnosis and treatment of patients. The post holder will participate in the supervision and training of Medical Laboratory Assistants, and Support Workers.
