Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic committed secretary who can provide effective and efficient secretarial and administrative support to the Haematology Clinical Team. The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team and be an excellent communicator, organised and able to work well under pressure.

The post holder will require a high degree of organisational skills and excellent working knowledge of administrative systems, with the ability to communicate to staff and patients at all levels.

You should be competent in word processing, be organised and possess a recognised educational standard in English and Maths. Experience of general office procedures is also desirable. Excellent keyboard and data inputting skills are needed as is the understanding of the importance in maintaining confidentiality.

The post holder will often be the first point of contact for the service requiring clear communication and liaison skills. They will be responsible for managing and prioritising their own workload and will be required to use their own initiative.

 

Main duties of the job

Main responsibilities include: 

  • Typing clinical letters
  • Receive and distribute correspondence
  • Deal with telephone calls, both internal and external
  • Provide support to the Senior Medical Secretaries

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Maths GCSE Grade C or equivalent
  • English Language GCSE or Equivalent Grade C
Desirable criteria
  • RSA Level 2 Word Processing or equivalent
  • AMSPAR

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a busy office and dealing with conflicting demands
  • Secretarial experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience as a medical secretary in a healthcare setting
  • NHS experience

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Audio typing skills
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to use LE2.2

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Windows
Desirable criteria
  • Medical terminology
  • Understanding of NHS
