Job overview

The post-holder is required to work as part of a small team over a seven-day period to provide a waste service ensuring that our clinical and nonclinical services can operate efficiently and effectively. You will be required to process domestic, clinical, and confidential waste from across the site. This includes collecting and segregating waste into the relevant waste stream. In ad- hoc situations the post holder maybe required to assist the staff in the waste compound processing waste for collection from site. The post holder will be required to work outside in all conditions (PPE is provided). The waste service runs 365 days per year including bank holidays and weekends these are allocated on a shift basis.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be responsible for the removal of all types of waste from around the hospital site.
  •  Ensure safe systems of work, infection prevention and operational procedures are always complied with.
  •  Manage own workload when collecting waste from across the site.
  • Ensure the safe operation and condition of premises, plant, and equipment at all times in accordance with health and safety.
  • Ensure the premises and equipment are maintained and kept in a clean and Serviceable condition.
  • Risks to health and safety and environmental/structural hazards are identified and reported to supervisor/manager.
  •  Ensure compliance with written documentation for all aspects of waste collections.
  •   Attend training as required to meet statutory and service needs within the waste Service.
  • Must be comfortable working in an exposed area in all weather conditions.
  • From time to time, it may be required for the post holder to work in other areas of the Trust, in such instances the post-holder will receive the appropriate training.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Educated to a standard of basic numeracy and literacy.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Previous waste portering experience

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
