Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our expanding patient centred and supportive Gastroenterology department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Our hard-working and forward-thinking team are keen to develop the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy service and would welcome similar minded candidates to join our department. This is an exciting time to join us with opportunity to support Endoscopy transformation and establish novel outpatient pathways as part of a blended workforce.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to have a broad experience of Endoscopy and to contribute to a therapeutic model of service including participation in the GI bleed rota following period of training and supervision if required. This post will provide the successful candidate with an excellent opportunity to contribute to the clinical and endoscopic management of those presenting with Gastrointestinal disease. Blackpool Teaching Hospitals in an NIHR Patient Recruitment Centre and involvement in Endoscopy related research and development of an Endoscopy related research portfolio would be fully supported.

Working for our organisation

Our Gastroenterology and Endoscopy service is one of the busiest in the UK – we offer a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for all gastroenterological conditions. Our JAG accredited, performance driven and patient centred Endoscopy unit delivers approximately 15,000 procedures per annum and is a spoke centre for the North-West Endoscopy training academy and is the admin hub for Bowel cancer screening within the Lancashire region.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • • 1st level Registered nurse
  • • Educated to relevant master’s degree level
  • • Nonmedical prescriber
  • • Endoscopist
  • • JAG Certified Nurse / experience of JAG accreditation in upper and lower GI / polypectomy
  • • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development
  • • Proven experience in teaching / education and research.
Desirable criteria
  • • Course in capsule endoscopy
  • • Accredited Bowel Cancer screener
  • • Leadership and management qualification
  • • Interest in further study – PhD level
  • • Teaching qualification 1

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • • Able to independently perform upper and lower GI endoscopic procedures
  • • Able to participate on the bleed rota
  • • Experience working as a senior clinician
  • • Able to perform therapeutics, e.g. polypectomy, band ligation, EMR, PEG insertions/withdrawal, band dilation with a patient centred approach
  • • Strong inspirational leadership, encouraging staff development and empowerment with evidence of designing educational programmes
  • • Able to prioritise own workload and that of others, demonstrating effective time management and organisational skills
  • • Able to work effectively under pressure and manage of complex and competing issues
  • • Evidence of undertaking difficult conversations resolving conflicts efficiently and effectively
  • • Experience working across settings within a multi-professional environment
  • • Experience of reviewing, developing services and managing change
  • • Experience of budget management
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of benchmarking e.g., JAG accreditation
  • Evidence of networking nationally

KNOWLEDGE
