Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire, with services covering the local authority areas of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.

We have three main hospitals providing acute services to around 330,000 local residents. The organisation also provides specialist tertiary care for cardiac and haematology services, delivers community health services to over 445,000 residents including those in North Lancashire and hosts the National Artificial Eye Service across England. Plus, we provide urgent and emergency care services to an estimated 18 million people who visit the seaside resort each year. We employ over 7000 people from 68 different countries.

Trosolwg o'r swydd

The Pathology Directorate is seeking a responsible and enthusiastic individuals to work in the specimen reception department at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.  The duties involve processing specimens, data entry using hospital IT systems and other routine tasks in the laboratory.  No previous experience is not required as training will be provided however good basic computer skills and attention to detail are desirable.

The successful candidates will be able to work flexibly to cover working hours between 11:45 - 20:00  including weekends and Bank Holidays once fully trained. Working hours availability  can be discussed at interview stage.

Scientific and Technical

·         To receive, label and centrifuge clinical samples and to enter patient details into the laboratory computer system. Full training given.

·         Responding to telephone enquiries.

·         To ensure safe handling of hazardous and infective materials according to defined protocols.

·         To ensure the correct disposal of clinical waste and sharps according to defined protocols.

·         To comply with all Departmental, Directorate, Trust and Statutory policies.

·         To assist in the training of students, Trainees and new MLA’s within the      Central Specimen Reception (CSR).

·         The service is 24/7 which also includes weekend/evening and night work, to be covered as and when required to support the needs of the service.

Personal

·         To ensure personal compliance with regards to mandatory, professional and personal development according to service needs.

·         Maintain an appropriate and up to date knowledge base.

·         Attendance at relevant meetings and Staff meetings/huddles.

·         Maintain awareness of future needs and contribute towards service developments.

·         Maintenance of personal training log.

·         To attend annual appraisals.
