An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Dietitian to join our innovative and dynamic Dietetic Department. We are looking for a 0.5 wte Diabetes Dietitian to join our Dietetic Diabetes team.

Main duties of the job
The post holder would cover type 1 complex Diabetes outpatient caseload (carbohydrate counting, insulin adjustment, insulin pumps and exercise management) as well as intermediate care for complex type 2 patients. This would include a mixture of Dietetic clinics, joint Diabetes nurse clinics and MDT clinics with the Diabetes Consultants. The post holder would be part of the wider Diabetes team as well as the Dietetic team and would also be involved in delivering DAFNE training. Training will be given if not already DAFNE trained.
Working for our organisation
The department has bases in Royal Blackburn Hospital, Burnley General Hospital, and Brierfield Health Centre. The post holder would be primarily based at Royal Blackburn Hospital's Diabetes Unit but would be expected to cover outpatient services across East Lancashire
The Diabetes team is part of the wider Dietetic Department covering the hospitals and communities of East Lancashire. The department has nearly 80 staff, 45 of whom are Dietitians. The department covers many specialities and is known for its innovation and development.
The department has good transport links to Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and beyond. We are also close to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Experience in Diabetes would be preferable but not essential. We appreciate that all applicants may not have the required clinical skills to completely fulfill the role therefore we are prepared to offer clinical training to support this when applicants have appropriate transferrable skills.
The post is supported by Clinical Specialist Band 7 Dietitians as well as other band 6 Diabetes Dietitians, Band 5 Rotational staff and Band 3 Dietetic Assistants. The post holder would be expected to help manage, support and clinically supervise Band 5 rotational staff, support staff, and Dietetic students/apprentices. The department offers the full student training programme and the post holder would be expected to be involved in clinically assessing and teaching of students therefore experience in this area is desirable.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc or MSc in Dietetics
- HCPC registration
- Clinical supervisory skills
- Training/experience in the NHS
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate relevant qualifications for Dietetics
- DAFNE trained
Expereince
Essential criteria
- Recent post grad experience working in the field of Diabetes
- Clinical supervision of Dietitians, Dietetic Support staff and students/apprentices
- Demonstrable evidence of ongoing CPD in Diabetes
- Experience working as part of an MDT
Desirable criteria
- Dietetic patient group education
- Support for insulin pumps
- Involvement in specialist interest group for Diabetes
Skills and Aptitudes
Essential criteria
- organisational and time management skills
- IT skills (competent in the use of Microsoft office applications)
- Ability to interpret complex clinical conditions including biochemistry
- Competence in calculating nutritional requirements and developing nutritional care plans
- Highly developed negotiation, persuasion, motivating, counselling and problem solving skills
- Clinicaly competent to give specialist Diabetes treatment advice to their patients and their support network
Desirable criteria
- Ability to support Departmental/Trust guidelines and policies in Diabetes
Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
- Ability to respond to unpredictable work patterns and frequent interruptions
- Ability to priorities own caseload effctively
- Effective working relationships with Dietetic team and MDT

- Committeement to work across all ELHT service delivery areas as required
- Access to a car for work or the ability to manage alternative transport arrangements
