Vacancy within Health Records Department, Burnley General Hospital.

 

Monday – Friday 1pm  5pm, 20 hours per week


We have a
small team of people working in Health Records on theBurnley site, they are conscientious, caring, reliable and compassionate, all qualities which are essential to working in the NHS.

The role involves delivering and collecting casenotes around the Burnley site. There is a lot of walking involved on a daily basis, you will certainly get your step count in!

Main duties of the job

Provision of a comprehensive and efficient Health Records Service to patients/service users within the East Lancashire Health Community, ensuring a high level of Customer Care whilst maintaining confidentiality at all times. Together with clerical/admin experience, keyboard skills, a polite and pleasant manner, you will be part of this team..

This role involves a lot of manual handling and is a physical environment. 

General Duties will include the following: 

Provide an accurate and efficient filing and retrieval service for medical casenotes.
Access the Cerner Millenium system.
Archive casenotes as/when required
Locate and extract medical casenotes for patients attending clinic and for both elective and emergency admissions.
Request and ensure delivery of health records for patients either attending a clinic or an admission, from all departments within this Trust and other hospitals.
Prioritise own workload ensuring agreed timescales are met each day involving the provision of case notes.
Provide a courier service which involves the collection of health records onsite and offsite, for emergency admissions during all shifts
Adhere to departmental policies and procedures and participate in audits in order to maintain data quality and provide an efficient service.
Cull, prepare and record health records for offsite storage and redirect upon request.
Frequent physical effort is required for long periods during a shift, therefore all moving and handling guidelines must be followed and staff must attend all training courses as required by the department manager.

Essential

Essential criteria
  • English Language and Maths GCSE Grade 4-9 or equivalent, Business Administration/ Customer Care NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Previous experience of working with IT systems or Microsoft Office. Previous experience in a customer care environment.
  • Willingness to learn new systems and processes Ability to work in a team Ability to demonstrate confidentiality and sensitivity when dealing with the public. Ability to work under pressure and use own initiative
  • IT/ Keyboard skills Good verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to deal with all disciplines on the telephone using empathy and negotiating skills Ability to cope, whilst dealing with constant interruptions in a busy environment
