Endoscopy Staff Nurse

Job overview
To provide and promote the highest possible standard of care based on professionally determined standards and accept accountability for the patient as an individual, providing autonomy in a fast paced and acute environment.
Participate as an effective practitioner within a multi-disciplinary unit, demonstrating effective teamwork and providing good morale within the department. To rotate through all clinical areas to meet service need and professional development.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
1 Provide care in the clinical areas as an effective member of the clinical team.
2 Establish a safe working environment for patient and staff and ensure that patient contact and dignity are compromised.
3 Take responsibility for a group of patients and act as team leader where appropriate, co-coordinating the utilisation of staff/ Endoscopy list.
4 Arrange the reception, admission, transfer and nurse led discharge.
5 Act as named nurse and room nurse in the Endoscopy unit, Providing competent assistance during a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
6 Demonstrate the knowledge of Endoscopy equipment, the function and application of all endoscopes and systems.
7 Maintain appropriate department documentation- e.g profiles, care plans, and electronic records.
8 Undertake daily checks within the Endoscopy unit and report any faults.
9 Ensure equipment is available prior start of the list.
Professional
1 Develop professionally through self development - extending own knowledge through NMC code of practice.
2 Ensure all work that is carried out in accordance to the trust and departmental policies/procedures/standards/guidelines and protocols.
3 Participate in the change process to meet future needs of the service.
4 Offer professional co-operation to medical/support staffing solving care related problems and carry out treatment as instructed.

Person specification
Attritbutes and Attainments
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse 1st Level
- Basic Life Support
- Ability to work in all procedure rooms including wearing of radiology lead PPE as required
- Flexibility to work the hours of the service across sites
- Proven ability to work unsupervised
- Effective communicator
- Good IT skills
- Ability to prioritise and plan workload in an acute environment
Desirable criteria
- Previous Endoscopy Experience
- Recent practice in an acute setting
- Working knowledge of gastrointestinal pathology
