JOB SUMMARY

To assist through all clinical areas to meet service need and professional development

Main duties of the job

 

1.      Arrange  and co-ordinate the reception, admission, transfer and nurse led    discharge of patients          

2.     Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care within specialism

3. Act as named/room/recovery nurse . senior level of skill proficiency for competent assistance during a broad range of diagnostic, therapeutic and complex endoscopic procedures.

4.     Assist in the decontamination process of endoscopes ensuring infection control measures are adhered to, keeping abreast of current changes in practice to minimise the risks to both patients and staff

5.       Establish a safe working environment for patients and staff .and ensure patient dignity is compromised as little as possible

6.       Maintain the appropriate documentation – e.g. care pathway documents, brief /debrief documents and electronic records.

7.      Assist in the investigation of all incidents, accidents to all patients, visitors or staff and implement the clinical incident reporting process.

8.       Demonstrate advanced knowledge of endoscopic and specialist equipment, the function and application of all endoscopes and systems,    potential malfunctions and hazards of endoscopic equipment /     substances and corrective action

Assist and coordinate in the cleaning of clinical areas and equipment, ensuring that the area is clear of potential hazard

PROFESSIONAL

1.                  Develop professionally through self development – extending own knowledge through the NMC’s code of professional conduct and participate in research and learning projects ongoing in the department, disseminating information to junior staff

2.                  Participate in the implementation of clinical practice that is carried out in accordance to Trust and Departmental policies / procedures / standards / guidelines and protocols, providing support to senior personnel.

3.                  Offer professional co-operation to medical / support staff in solving care related problems and carry out treatment as instructed to deliver quality care.

4.                  Participate and promote the change process to meet future needs of the service, keeping up to date with local and national agendas. Assistance with JAG compliancy.

5.                  Maintain stock levels of all clinical equipment .

6.                  Assist in the implementation of procedure for complaints from relatives, patients and staff and inform the line manager of any untoward incidents and participate in the clinical incident reporting process.

7.                  Delegate responsibilities for the delivery of patient care to all junior members of staff. 

 

 

 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

CLINICAL GOVERNANCE

COMMUNICATION

 

1.                  Communicate with patients, visitors and colleagues – by telephone, face to face, in writing or electronically to ensure the effective running of the service this can be both complex and sensitive including patients with special needs.

2.                  Co-operate and communicate with members of the multi-disciplinary team sensitive information concerning the patient’s medical condition.

3.                  Participate in regular staff / unit meetings.

4.                  Ensure that important information relating to the patient’s physical condition or which would affect the nursing care is related to the appropriate personnel and act as link nurse between the unit and other departments.

5.                  Conducts self professionally and according to policy during distressing/ emotional circumstances when dealing with patients, relatives and visitors

 

 

EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT

 

1.                  Attend mandatory training and reviews as local policy.

2.                  Participate in performance review process and achieve objectives.

3.                  Contribute to the development of the service, analyse and reflect upon the value of professional experiences to improve own and others professional practice.

4.                  Act as Assessor  and preceptor for all learners and support practitioners in their role as co mentor / assessor

5.                  Participate in or lead in training and teaching programmes.

6.                  Be actively involved in appropriate groups and working parties to develop both professionally and individually and to meet service needs.

7.                  Undertake clinical supervision of junior staff

11.  Support Charge Nurse in managing sickness/absence and HR processes when required

1.                  To comply with safety policies, procedures and guidelines for self and others.

3.                  To report as soon as is practically possible any hazards or defects.

4.                  To report as soon as is practically possible accidents or untoward incidents and to ensure appropriate incident reporting documentation is completed.
