Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Simulation and Clinical Skills Practitioner to join our Simulation Team.

This is a full-time band 6 post based, either at the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate or William Harvey Hospital in Ashford in Kent but with the requirement to deliver clinical skills and simulation education sessions across the three acute hospitals within the Trust, including Kent & Canterbury Hospital.

The Medical Education Department is investing in the Trust's simulation program to expand comprehensive medical and clinical simulation training, tailored to the needs of students, trainees, and professionals.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will lead the day-to-day operation of simulation and clinical skills sessions and courses across the Trust both within dedicated simulation and clinical skills spaces and in-situ settings. The postholder will proactively develop strong relationships with other Medical Education teams and with Care Group leadership teams in order to deliver against our medical education strategy and to fulfil the requirements of external bodies and regulators.   Working with the Medical Education Quality and Governance  Manager and the Head of Performance, they will ensure the implementation of all aspects of the activities of the Quality and Governance and Business Performance Committees. 

 

The postholder will play a lead role in ensuring all appropriate data collection, processing, analysis and use with regards to internal decision-making, reporting and  continuous improvement as well as with regards to external reporting and quality assurance visits. 

 

The post-holders will be responsible for the acquisition, maintenance and use of all clinical skills models and consumables and all simulation mannikins and equipment and the use of these by simulation technicians, simulation fellows, simulation faculty.  The role encompasses the management, support and development of the simulation technicians.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Professional health care qualification with up to date professional registration (e.g. NMC, HCPC) Postgraduate Cert or evidence of postgraduate study Completed or undertaking a first level degree in healthcare Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Mentor/practice assessor qualification or equivalent. Mental Health First Aider

Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven ability of managing and supporting staff/students Excellent verbal communication, teaching and facilitation skills Excellent written communication Advanced IT skills including proven abilities in using Microsoft Office Applications Excellent planning and organisational skills and effective time management Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Ability to prioritise and delegate tasks appropriately Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to explain complex situations and sensitive information and respond in an appropriate and confidential manner Able to identify areas for improvement and implement processes as appropriate
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of clinical skills competence e.g. catheterisation, IV access, NG tube insertion Evidence of planning, implementing and evaluating education programmes Knowledge of different teaching and learning styles. Knowledge of relevant guidelines and policies within a Simulation environment. Ability to use a variety of presentation skills to engage with individuals with a multitude of learning styles
