Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead for Maternity Services

Band 7

Job overview

The role will be responsible for improving patient experience and health inequalities within local maternity services. They will contribute at all levels across the service in understanding what we do well and what we can improve through the challenges faced for those who fall under the nine protected characteristics of The Equality Act 2010.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure:

·       That local maternity services meet the needs of their local populations, paying particular attention to health inequalities. This includes facilitating informed decision-making, for example choice of pain relief in labour where we know there are inequalities, ensuring access to interpreter services, and adhering to the Accessible Information Standard in maternity and neonatal settings.

·       The collection and disaggregation of local data and feedback by population groups to monitor differences in outcomes and experiences for women and babies from different backgrounds.

·       That this data is used to provide targeted support and implement local plans to reduce inequalities in experience and outcomes.

·       The involvement of service users in quality, governance, and co-production when designing and planning delivery of maternity and neonatal services.
