Maternity Workforce Lead

Job overview

The post holder will lead on the delivery of the maternity recruitment and retention strategy and act as an expert on recruitment and best practice to deliver on the programmes of work related to Midwifery workforce, recruitment and retention.

They will work closely with Midwifery Teams, working in partnership with Human Resource colleagues, the Divisional Directors of Nursing, Director of Midwifery, Corporate Nursing Quality, Lead Nurse for Internationally Educated Nurses & Midwives and Pastoral Care, Workforce Matron and HR. The post holder will lead on projects to develop new roles, innovative ways of working, and programmes to support the recruitment and retention of staff. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the Practice Development and Professional Midwifery Advocates team, to enhance experience of work and promote retention in the maternity workforce for preceptorship, early career and late career midwives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics.  The programme is full-time (please email [email protected] if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Master’s Degree or level 7 equivalent or equivalent experi-ence or working towards
  • Current registration with NMC
  • Leadership/management quali-fication or working towards, or where not held, willingness to undertake on appointment
  • Teaching and assessing in practice qualification or equiv-alent
  • Evidence of continuous profes-sional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in an acute healthcare setting
  • Formal and informal teaching experience
  • Experience of managing re-cruitment within an Acute NHS Trust
  • Able to build influential work-ing relationships at all levels within and outside the organ-isation when considering re-cruitment and retention
  • Considerable experi-ence of recruitment and partnership working
  • Experience of conflict management
Desirable criteria
  • Management experience and taking the lead in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of working with e - rostering and safe care
  • Knowledge of National Legislation around Safe Staffing
  • Experience managing international attraction campaigns within a high- volume
  • Resourcing/recruitment market

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of national materni-ty agenda and current issues relating to the NHS
  • Awareness of key principles of risk management pro-cesses
  • Knowledge of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that are used within maternity
  • Awareness of Local Tar-gets and Performance Dashboard
  • A knowledgeable clinician with the ability to apply evi-dence to practice
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of workforce plan-ning, modelling and data mining tools and methodologies
  • Knowledge of overseas resourc-ing and recruitment services and practices with experience in lead-ing successful recruitment and retention programmes
