Job overview

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a part time Dental Officer to work in our Prison Dental Services, based at HMP Rochester. 

We are seeking to appoint someone who is passionate about delivering a high quality standard of care to our patients. Our service covers Special Care & Paediatric services; we also provide domiciliary care, prison dentistry and treatment under Sedation & General Anaesthetic.

You will be an ambassador for the service, providing patient centred and effective care is at the heart of everything we do and pride ourselves in demonstrating our values that people feel cared for, safe and confident that we are making a difference in everything we do.

Main duties of the job

You will be a dentist with a dental degree registrable in the UK and have a current registration with the GDC, a committed clinician able to provide flexible high quality dental care and committed to providing dental care for individuals who are detained in Her Majesty's  Prisons.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Satisfactory completion of Dental Foundation Training year.
  • Performer Number with NHS England
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of salaried service and/or special care dentistry.
  • Qualification registerable with the General Dental Council BDS MFDS, MJDF

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Has current GDC registration with no restrictions and has a performer number with a minimum of 3 years’ experience within NHS dentistry
  • Experience of providing care which requires the application of sound ethical and professional principles in a complex physical, social or intellectual context.
  • Maintains professional knowledge, competence and continuing professional development.
  • Professional clinical approach including participation in appraisal, peer review, clinical audit and continuing professional development activities.
  • Co-operates with other members of the dental team and other healthcare colleagues professionally in the interests of patients.
  • Sufficient knowledge, confidence and experience to deal sensitively and professionally with issues of poor or under performance in colleagues and other members of the dental team.
  • Protects the confidentiality of patients’ information.
  • Respects patients’ dignity and choices.
  • Actively puts patients’ interests first and acts to protect them.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of SOEL Health dental system or similar computerised dental charging system
  • Knowledge of wider dental environment

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Willingness to participate in clinical research and audit as directed with the potential to take the lead in clinical research projects or audits within their competence.
