In East Kent maternity services, we are undertaking significant improvement works to our maternity estate across the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital and William Harvey Hospital, Ashford. The Programme focusses on the most critical issues identified by regulatory reviews.
The Programme Manager will be working as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team and need to be proactive, highly motivated and organised to ensure the programme is delivered. This post is required to also support the strategic development of high quality, safe and effective maternity services, ensuring timely patient access, promoting excellent patient outcomes and positive patient and carer experience. They will help implement sustainable new models of maternity care to meet the needs of patients within the pathway.
The role is critical in coordinating the programme of work and workstream activities within expected timelines; monitoring, identifying and mitigating risk; and monitoring implementation deliverables. They will be responsible for coordinating delivery of programme governance through the Maternity Governance and ensuring appropriate information is available to enable board effectiveness.
Main duties of the job
The Programme Manager will manage the programme of work required for the strategic transformation of maternity services in East Kent, aligning regional and local planning to ensure the effectiveness of the EKHUFT plan to create two new obstetric theatres at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital and targeted refurbishment of existing maternity estate across the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital and William Harvey Hospital Ashford.
The Programme Manager will support the delivery of improved processes and greater efficiency, through improving service provision, enhancing patient flow and ensuring effective use of resources. They will recommend improvements relating to efficient and effective service provision and operational delivery, by maintaining a strong awareness of the Trust’s priorities (performance, quality and financial), in line with NHS improvement and innovation.

Qualifications and training
Essential criteria
- Educated to a minimum of Masters level or demonstrable equivalent extensive experience.
- Knowledge of healthcare management
Desirable criteria
- PRINCE or alternative formal programme and project management qualification.
Skills and experience
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to understand and interpret highly complex information and willingness to develop skills in this area.
- Ability to assess projects to identify areas for collaborative working and implement new ways of working as required.
Desirable criteria
- Facilitation skills with groups of varying size
Governance
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience in managing projects with budgets.
