Job overview
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Health Care Assistant to join our team at the Viking Day Unit Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital .
To provide support to the Nursing team whilst ensuring the maintenance of high standards of patient care in response to service need. This job entails contributing to the delivery of patients’ individual care under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered nurse, whilst supporting the entire team with day to day running of the unit.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role will be to support the day to day running of the unit. This entails providing support to the nursing staff in a variety of ways, such as undertaking clerical work, working personally with patients and helping to maintain a high standard of care, cleanliness and safety within the chemotherapy unit. It will involve working with multi-disciplinary teams and having the ability to develop effective relationships outside of our team to ensure a smooth effective journey for the patients.

Experience
Essential criteria
- 12 months experience as a HCA
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working with oncology and haematology patients
Skills
Essential criteria
- Effective communication and organisational skills
- Ability to deliver high quality care
- competent in venepuncture
- Basic computer and keyboard skills
- Ability to undertake and understand monitoring of patients vital signs
- Competent in undertaking investigations and procedures such as ECG's, blood glucose monitoring
Desirable criteria
- Willingness to develop CVAD skills
- Second checking blood transfusion
- Competent in venesection
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Good standard of general education
- completed care certificate

- Demonstrates good IT skills
