Job overview

 The West Kent Medicines Optimisation Team are recruiting a Medicines Optimisation Technician to join the team to support with the implementation of priorities around prescribing financial efficiencies and medication safety in general practice by undertaking reviews, audits, and medication switches.

In addition, you will support with training and development of practice administrators and Primary Care Network (PCN) teams to support safe, effective, and efficient processes involving medicines.

The successful candidate must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and will have good organisational skills, be self-motivated and able to prioritise own work. They should be able to work independently and as part of multi-disciplinary team.

The team supports 49 GP practices across West Kent and the role is busy and varied; successful candidates will be responsible for the organisation, planning, and implementation of their own workload to meet set priorities and deadlines.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include supporting practices with national and local prescribing priorities. This will include the implementation of cost-effective prescribing strategies and conducting audits to support with safety initiatives. 

Candidates will be supported to develop a good level of knowledge around primary care prescribing so that effective support can be provided, including responding to medicines information queries, optimising use of prescribing support software and meeting requirements of incentive schemes.

Candidates must have excellent communication and organisation skills as well as the ability to concurrently manage multiple initiatives in numerous practices whilst tracking outcomes and achievements.
 
Candidates will work closely with a range of healthcare professionals and must be able to influence their prescribing habits.
