Job overview
This is a new post within the Kent Oncology Centre, based at Canterbury, providing services to patients from both East Kent.
The post holder will join our team of medical and clinical oncologists to take a major interest in Breast and Urology. We have a well-established oncology research department, providing the opportunity for the post holder to run and develop clinical trials.
Main duties of the job
Duties of this post will be to support the consultant service across a range of tumour types:
Attending Consultant led out-patient clinics, and undertaking related admin and chemotherapy prescribing.
Review of patients attending for chemotherapy and radiotherapy if required by nursing or radiography staff. Teaching of SHOs and medical students.
Involvement in clinical governance and audit activities.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust was formed in April 2000. It consists of two District General Hospitals based at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells providing services to approximately 450,000 people living in Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, East Sussex and the surrounding areas.
Its major hospitals are The Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury near Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone Hospital. The Kent Oncology Centre in West Kent is based at Maidstone Hospital. The Trust manages the Oncology centre based at Maidstone and Canterbury. These services form an integral part of Kent’s Cancer Services.
The Trust provides general hospital services to a population of approximately 460,000 in West Kent and North East Sussex, and some specialist services to a considerably larger population.
Its major hospitals are Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury and Maidstone Hospital. The Trust’s Headquarters are at Maidstone Hospital.
The Clinical Director's of the Kent Oncology Centre are Dr Kannon Nathan & Dr Tim Sevitt. The Director of Operations for the Division is Alice Farrell, and the General Manager for Oncology is Grace O'Driscoll.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to support the consultant-led service across a range of tumour types.
As a member of the Kent Oncology Centre there will be a commitment to participate fully in a Kent wide approach to the delivery of cancer care. This includes attendance at governance meetings, multi-disciplinary team meetings and the practice of cross-referral with other site specialists.

Education
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration
- MRCP/FRCR or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Higher qualification in Medicine
Experience
Essential criteria
- Good general medical experience.
- Oncology experience at SpR or equivalent level.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in Clinical Audit & Research
- Experience in participating in specialist clinics.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Enthusiasm for developing tumour site specialisation and Cancer Services in Kent.
- Ability to organise and manage
- Ability to participate in clinical, as well as, administrative workload.
