Do you have a passion for infection prevention and control particularly with an interest in surgical site infection?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Registered General practitioner ideally with a surgical and / or orthopaedic background to join our IPC Surgical site surveillance team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

The post holder will work autonomously and collaboratively across our 2 acute general hospital sites undertaking surgical site surveillance and audit programmes, working with Microbiology, Orthopaedic and other Surgical Consultants as well as the Infection Prevention and Control and other multidisciplinary teams.

Main duties of the job

They will collect and record data related to hospital acquired surgical wound infections. Monitoring and reporting trends both locally and nationally. Providing timely feedback on infection data to support improvement projects and interventions to ensure the safety and high-quality care of our patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions. 

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics.  The programme is full-time (please email [email protected] if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Registered Nurse/ AHP
  • • GCSE’s, ‘A’ Levels, NVQ’s, Diploma, Degree, or working towards / same level
Desirable criteria
  • • Masters or Working towards masters

Experience/ Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Working within the hospital environment / settings
  • • Good knowledge of anatomy of physiology,
  • • Knowledge / understanding of surveillance
  • • Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously
Desirable criteria
  • • Surgical/ Orthopaedic experience
  • • Has current experience of an autonomous co-ordinator role. Can demonstrate experience of change management and leadership and demonstrate effective practise.
  • • Has a working knowledge of standards setting and quality
