The primary function of this post is the allocation of work to Consultant Pathologists within specific turn-around-times. The role includes dividing work equally between the specialty Consultant Pathologists ensuring that each Consultant has sufficient job points to their allocated time. This post would suit someone who would like to gain more experience with/or has knowledge of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to:
Support the Operational and Business Coordinator, ensuring the day to day running of the Allocation Office is maintained and work is distributed
accordingly. This involves overseeing the distribution of work ensuring that specimen allocation time/points are appropriately divided between the specialty Consultant Histopathologists.
Ensure accurate data is recorded and records are maintained for the
department.
To review and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as and when required under the direction of the Histology Clerical Lead and Operational and Business Coordinator.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE (grade 4-9 or A-C) or equivalent in English and Mathematics
- Minimum of one ‘A level’ (grade A-E) or equivalent
- Qualified to OCR/RSA level 3 standard or equivalent or have equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of NHS
- GCSE Biology
- ECDL or equivalent evidence of IT literacy.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in the use of patient databases.
- Knowledge of the range of secretarial procedures
- Basic understanding of medical terminology
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of inhouse Pathology IT systems
- Understanding of histopathology as a diagnostic service
Skills
Essential criteria
- Organizational skills
- Audio touch typing (60wpm)
- Advanced use of Microsoft Excel
- Proficient in Microsoft word, and outlook
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable criteria
- Shorthand.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
