 We are recruiting for a Specialist Pharmacist - Education & Training who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

To support the Lead Pharmacist Education & Quality Development in reviewing and implementing an Education Strategy supporting the development of all staff within the pharmacy department.

To contribute to the provision of professional leadership, advice and support for pharmacy services including dispensary and pharmacy clinical services.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the delivery of undergraduate pharmacy placements 

To be an educational supervisor for Foundation pharmacists undertaking early career training, as appropriate.

To be a designated supervisor for Trainee Pharmacists undertaking Foundation Training.

To liaise with pharmacy staff to ensure a structured educational experience for undergraduate pharmacy placements.

To support Lead Pharmacist Education & Quality Development in implementing the Pharmacy Education Strategy

To support Lead Pharmacist Education & Quality Development to develop, deliver and evaluate training programmes for pharmacy staff.

To lead on medicines management related training for doctors, nurses and Allied Healthcare Professionals.

To lead on developing a structured CPD training programme for pharmacy staff.

To deputise for the Lead Pharmacist Education & Quality Development, as required.

As a Specialist Pharmacist Education & Training, you will have the opportunity to work with an established Lead Pharmacist Education & Quality Development, enabling you to develop in a supportive environment with structured progression. Not only will you develop your educational leadership, but will continue to work as an expert clinical practitioner and support others to learn.

Flexible working opportunities within the Trust are on the rise, giving employees flexibility on where, when and the hours they work

Promoting the safe, rational and cost effective use of medicines in accordance with the Joint Medway and Swale Formulary and other evidence based guidelines.

To evaluate the clinical appropriateness, safety and legality of prescriptions based upon the patients’ diseases, co-morbidities and other medication and treatments taken, contacting the prescriber to make agreed changes as appropriate.

Promoting efficient discharge planning inclusive of patient counselling and education.

Following procedures to reduce medicine waste (e.g. by using patient own drugs)

Working with pharmacy and other Health Care Professionals to improve patient flow

 Answering or referring medicine information queries as appropriate.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy (MPharm) or equivalent
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a pharmacist
  • Postgraduate diploma in General Pharmacy Practice or Equivalent Experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply all aspects of regulatory legislation and guidelines
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge covering a range of pharmacy services

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration hospital pharmacy experience (Minimum of 2 years)
  • Demonstrates ability to identify problems, analyse root cause and propose solutions for complex problems
  • Able to solve difficult and ambiguous problems by advanced reasoning and sound technical judgment
  • Experience in providing and receiving highly complex and contentious information
  • Experience of providing support, mentoring or a leading role in aspects of education or teaching
  • Demonstrate experience and ability to manage or supervise a range of projects
