Main duties of the job

It is envisaged that the new Consultant Urological Surgeon will undertake the management of general urology and rapid access pathway patients particularly prostate cancer, Local Anaesthetic Template Biopsy and where required to develop a subspecialty interest to complement the current expertise within the department. This post is based at Medway Maritime Hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·         Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting to the Department

·         Play a major role in meeting the 28 day, 31 day and 62 day cancer targets as well as the 18 week target pathway

·         Help to further develop and enhance urology services.

·         Share in the provision and leadership of a high quality urological services.

·         Provide teaching and training for trainees within the unit and non-medical personnel, and participate in General Practitioner training.

·         It is envisaged that the new appointee will have an interest in teaching and that he/she will develop teaching for all grades of personnel in the Department, but especially will participate in Medical Student teaching, subject to timetabling.

·         Active involvement in research

·         Participation in relevant audit and quality assurance processes

·         Abiding by the clinical and corporation governance policies of the Trust

 

The appointee is required to participate in a broad range of the clinical activities of the Department, including provision of comprehensive urology emergency service on 1:6 weekly rota with scheduled morning ward rounds on Saturday and Sunday.  During on-calls, the appointee will be expected to provide support and to the middle grade and other Specialists and supervise/undertake required emergency surgery. Appointee is expected to participate in internal consultant cross-cover to support annual and study-leave.

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or The Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR). Proposed CCT/CESR date must be within 6 months of interview if it has not already been awarded. via European Community Rights
  • FRCS (Urol)
