We are recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist – Macmillan Breast Cancer who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
Main duties of the job
The successful post holder will be expected to work as part of a team who provides specialist advice for the diagnosis, management, treatment and on-going care of patients with breast cancer.
As a Macmillan Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist you will need to work as part of the MDT to provide specialist advice for the diagnosis, management, treatment and on-going care of patients with breast cancer to ensure that all patients presenting with breast cancer will be managed in line with the agreed pathways and will benefit from expert advice and support as required according to their specific needs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
In conjunction with the breast MDT and support services, the post holder will assist with the co-ordination of the treatment pathway, including screening and primary clinics, incorporating information provision, physical and psychological support and completion of holistic needs assessment, under the guidance and development of the band 7s. Working in partnership with Macmillan and other external stakeholders.
The Post holder will assist in supporting specialist wound care/seroma clinics, simple lymphoedema assessment and treatment, breast cancer family history advise and prosthetic clinics.
We are looking for an experienced nurse with knowledge in breast screening, Surgical or Oncology nursing to join our breast cancer multi-disciplinary team at Medway NHS Foundation, to work in conjunction with and supporting the other clinical nurse specialists currently in post.
The Trust provides care for patients with early and secondary breast cancer, with an onsite chemotherapy service and radiotherapy treatment provided at Maidstone hospital. The Trust offers immediate breast reconstruction with our onco-plastic surgeon on site and works closely with Queen Victoria Hospital (specialist reconstructive surgery centre for the south east of England) to ensure patients have the full range of reconstructive options available.
This is an exciting time at Medway breast service’s with the on-going development of stratified risk pathways and the delivery of personalised care and support with health and well-being events currently running.
The post holder will play an active part in the multi-disciplinary meetings and service review, and be able to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The post holder will require
• RGN with post registration experience and may have completed the Principles of Breast Cancer Care course for healthcare professionals along with the advanced communication course
• Have the ability to work autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary team
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Have experience of managing case-loads effectively with the support of the band 7s

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse Level 1 on the NMC Register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality
- BSc Nursing
- Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or equivalent post qualification experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate an understanding of the National agenda for speciality
- Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering effective patient focused care
- Previous experience of student supervision and clinical education at undergraduate level
- Experience of delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator
Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills to work within the speciality MDT and across professional groups
- Proven listening / counselling skills with the ability to manage complex situations and appropriately deliver sensitive and difficult outcomes
- Advanced clinical, managerial and leadership skills in specialty
