Please note this role is Fixed term/Secondment for 12 months covering maternity leave

Main duties of the job
To support the Lead Clinical trials Technician – Clinical Trials, Research and Innovation in the operational delivery of a safe, effective and high quality clinical trials service to Medway NHS Foundation Trust patients that complies with current legislation (e.g. Medicines for Human use
(Clinical trials) Regulations 2004) and best practice guidelines (e.g. Good Clinical practice (GCP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
To develop relationships and work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including Clinical Research Organisations (CROs), Trial Sponsors, Principal Investigators (PIs) and research teams.
The post holder is also expected to work closely with the Research and Innovation (R&I) operational team supporting the implementation of medicines related trials with the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To assist with the operational set-up, maintenance and close down of all new drug clinical trials in collaboration with the Lead Technician – Clinical Trials, Research and Innovation.
To preprare and update clear, concise and accurate trial-specific dispensing and investigational medicinal product (IMP) management guidelines, ensuring that all necessary documentation is in place the recruitment of patients into the trial within reasonable timeframes agreed with the R&I department.
To assist with the preparation and maintenance of pharmacy clinical trials files, electronic and written records.
To assist processing and for ensuring amendments to clinical trials are carried out promptly and accurately and that any changes to procedures are put in place.
To assist and ensure appropriate close-down activities for completed trials.
To arrange archiving of clinical trial documentation and retrieval of archived documents, if required.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BTEC in Pharmaceutical science or equivalent
- NVQ3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
- Pharmacy Technician registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP) trained
Desirable criteria
- Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT) qualification (preferable but not essential)
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of GCP, GMP and Clinical Trial Regulations
- Understanding of relevant UK clinical trial legislation
Experience
Essential criteria
- Some clinical trials experience
- Demonstrable post-qualification hospital experience ideally including dispensary services and aseptic preparation
Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent time management and organisational skills; able to prioritise workload and multi task
- Ability to apply relevant UK clinical trial legislation
