Salary: £53, 755 - £60,504 per annum/pro rata
We are recruiting for a Specialist Pharmacist - General Medicine who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
The post holder will be the department lead for all activity relating to General medicine patients. They will be a role model, working to a high level within the pharmacy department.
Specialist Pharmacists are expected to have a key leadership role, acting as a role model for others. They will communicate and maintain excellent working relationships with all those that use, commission and work within the services delivered.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To be responsible for providing and overseeing the pharmacy clinical service provided to the general medicine wards within the hospital
Carry out education and counselling of new patients at the start of newly started high risk medicines.
Ensures the provision of a proactive, high quality, cost effective, safe and responsive service to general medicine wards.
To actively develop the general medicine pharmacy service, exploring opportunities for clinically advanced services, such as review of patients in clinic.
To provide a clinical ward pharmacy service to the general medicine wards and lead on the education and training of other members of pharmacy and MDT in the pharmaceutical management of these patients.
Check the clinical accuracy and appropriateness of prescriptions for patients
To ensure the appropriate ordering of medicines for general medicine to ensure medicines are available for patients and to minimise wastage from unused or expired medicines.
Attend the board rounds and MDTs where applicaple within general medicine, providing expert pharmaceutical advice.
To actively lead on efficiency savings within general medicine.
To support with the screening of Homecare prescriptions.
To be the pharmacy department liaison with the wider within general medicine.
To identify and implement opportunities for the efficient use of medicines in general medicine.
To support with the late night, weekend and bank holiday rota as part of the department’s 7 day services.
To develop a personal audit and research portfolio.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Master’s degree in pharmacy
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist in the UK (or eligible to be)
- Specialist post graduate qualification such as clinical diploma or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- Non-medical Independent Prescribing Qualification.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of medicine
- Knowledge of and ability to apply all aspects of regulatory legislation and guidelines
- Demonstrate expert knowledge covering a range of pharmacy services and able to provide highly specialist advice
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in the area to a high level
- Proven experience of delivering responsibilities and objectives to time in previous posts
- Experience of providing a service to the Specialist area
Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates ability to identify problems, analyse root cause and propose solutions for complex problems
- Able to solve difficult and ambiguous problems by advanced reasoning and sound technical judgment
- Able to manage and support others
- Advanced IT skills – including MS Word, Excel, email and PowerPoint
- Experience in providing and receiving highly complex and contentious information
