We are recruiting for a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist - Neonates who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will be expected to expertly lead and develop the therapy service to Neonates.

As a Specialist Occupational therapist or Physiotherapist in Neonates you will undertake research projects, evaluation and implementation of evidence based practice in order to ensure that high quality services are based on the best available evidence

The role can be either an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist or could be split between both professions.

In addition, you will be actively supported and to undertake courses and further training develop your clinical skills and practice in this specialist area.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide robust clinical leadership to the therapy team in the provision of an effective, high quality Therapy Service for Neonates (in and out patients), associated specialist clinics and wider Paediatric therapy team. This is achieved through effective communication, influencing, motivating and inspiring others to deliver high quality care. This includes responding to national initiatives and advising on appropriate clinical and professional strategy relating to therapy practice within neonates. .

To be a physiotherapy or occupational therapy clinical expert and provide clinical leadership in neonatal therapy services

To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own clinical caseload and to manage the clinical risk within own caseload

To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive and timely patient treatment records in accordance with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) or Royal Collage of Occupational Therapists(RCOT) and Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and local service standards of practice.

To practice independently at a highly advanced and expert level, whilst effectively assessing risk, using more senior medical advice when appropriate.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy professional qualification e.g. MCSP/ BSc
  • Registration with Health Care Professions Council CSP, RCOT or equivalent professional registration
  • Relevant, accredited, postgraduate education/courses in neonatal physiotherapy or Occupational therapy

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in the specialist assessment and treatment of a wide range of complex clinical presentations relating to neonatal patients
  • Teaching experience to uni and multi-professional groups with evidence of ability to deliver high quality presentations

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration experience of which considerable experience has been in this specialty in an acute NHS organisation
  • Experience of staff management including supervision and of development and performance management of staff
  • Significant experience in education and clinical training of others
  • Significant experience in the development and performance management of physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists and students

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work autonomously within specialist clinical area & undertake clinical analysis and reasoning skills in the assessment and treatment of neonatal patients and apply broad standards & guidelines to own practice
  • Well-developed specialist therapeutic handling skill relevant to this specialty
  • Leadership and influential skills, able to lead and command confidence in senior therapists, consultants, senior nurses and managers within and related to neonatal services
