The successful applicant would be offered the post subject to being accepted onto the Canterbury Christ Church University Occupational Therapy Apprentice degree program commencing September 2025.
We are recruiting for a Occupational Therapy Apprentice who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
Main duties of the job
This role allows the apprentice to develop their core clinical skills as part of the Occupational Therapy apprenticeship programme. The apprenticeship levy will be used to provide a training opportunity for the post holder to undertake a three years and four months level 6 BSc.
We will provide a work placed mentor to provide guidance, support, and knowledge in the Occupational Therapy profession.
Following successful completion of the apprenticeship programme and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Occupational Therapist, you will become a Band 5 OT, where the following Job Description will apply.
Failure to complete the apprenticeship course will lead to termination of the Apprentice Occupational Therapy contract and you will not be eligible for a qualified Occupational Therapist post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The apprenticeship involves receiving on the job training in their substantive roles and 20% off the job training at Canterbury Christ Church University. Off the job training will include a combination of academic study and clinical placements.
It is a requirement that the post holder commits to undertake the formal education of the course and successfully complete all components of the training programme within the required period. During the apprenticeship programme the post holder will perform the duties and responsibilities in this job description as a learner and under the direct and/or indirect supervision of a registered practitioner.
The post holder will be proactive in seeking opportunities to develop their own knowledge and skills and are also expected to seek support and guidance in a timely manner if any difficulties are encountered.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- 3 A Levels (including biology or human biology) or equivalent
- Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge of basis assessment and treatment of patients with a range of conditions
- Understanding of the balance of professional development needs with service needs
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and managing risk in your own work
- Understanding of national and professional issues Knowledge of primary and secondary care services
Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad range of experience as a student including highly acute environments with high demand for prioritisation of workloads
- Experience of responding to demand / prioritising work / managing a caseload as a student
Skills
Essential criteria
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Able to communicate clearly with other team members and patients/ carers
- Able to demonstrate a holistic approach to patient management
- Basic IT skills
- Able to work in and fully contribute to a team
- Basic auditing skills Effective time management and organisational skills
