Main duties of the job
This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join Medway Maritime Hospital The maternity Unit provides care to approx. 5000 women a year.
We are looking for a visible leader who will provide professional, clinical and managerial leadership within the maternity team ensuring both safe and high standards of clinical care are championed throughout the maternity unit. You need to have strong leadership and management skills, sound clinical experience and be able to work with and support newly and experienced midwifery staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Antenatal Ward; including budget control, clinical governance, staff development and training.
The post holder will be expected to provide professional leadership within the clinical area and provide direction and inspirational leadership to all members of the multi-disciplinary team within the area for which they are accountable for.
The post holder will be involved in the development of policies, protocols / guidelines and patient information.
This post is to cover a 7 day service with manager on call responsibilities and coordination of unit flow in team work with other Senior Sisters.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife on the NMC register
- Management qualification or equivalent relevant experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
- An understanding of audit and research based midwifery practice
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven experience of leading a team; including management of rotas, managing competencies, resources and staff
- Experience of teaching / assessing / supervising others in a clinical setting
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to organise and plan own time and that of junior staff and learners
- Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information. To include dealing with distressed relatives and other challenging situations
- Is able to manage team and individual performance
- Is able to manage staffing and supply budgets effectively
