We are recruiting for a Multi-Disciplinary Team Coordinator who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

Main duties of the job

Develop a knowledge and understanding of the patient pathway for individual tumour sites. Use this knowledge to support and facilitate the MDT by ensuring all highly suspected, newly diagnosed, recurrent and subsequent cancer patients will be reviewed by an MDT meeting within the appropriate timescales.

Lead, co-ordinate, administrate and attend the MDT meeting. This includes producing and circulating lists of patients to be discussed, compiling an agenda and ensuring test results and other relevant information is taken to the meeting and ensuring that MDT members are aware of the breach dates at discussion.

Record outcomes and treatment plans as agreed at the MDT meeting in real time within Cancer services guidelines and documented on Infoflex. Ensure minutes for each patient are
produced, accurate and distributed to core members, filed in the hospital notes and distributed to named GPs within 24 hours.

Ensure that any follow-up actions from MDT meetings are carried out; including outpatient or diagnostic test appointments, tertiary referrals and treatment start dates according to all national 31 and 62 day targets.
Ensure that all cancer target patients MDT outcomes/treatment plans are progressed in accordance with all National 31 and 62 day Cancer Waiting Times targets.

To lead and collaborate with other departments within and outside of the Trust to ensure effective co-ordination between all members of the MDT.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsibility to communicate any pathway issues/potential breaches to appropriate staff, as per the standard operational policy, and MDT members to enable the pathway to be met within target timescales. Whilst it is a role of the co-ordinator to ensure that the appropriate clinical teams and managers are aware, it is the managers’ responsibility to take the necessary actions to avoid all breaches.

Be a first point of contact for patients enquiring as to the timing of tests or appointments. The MDT co-ordinator will provide the relevant information or find out that information from the appropriate sources and communicate to the patient.

To undertake any audits as required by Cancer Services and the Tumour Site Specific Group (TSSG).

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE’s equivalent including English Language and Maths
  • NVQ / QCF level 3 in relevant subject or equivalent level of working experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Cancer Patient Pathways
  • National Cancer Waiting Times standard
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in an administrative role (cancer experience essential)
  • Experience in working under pressure and to tight deadlines
