Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust in partnership with the University of Southampton are delighted to invite applications for seven full time Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Psychological Therapist posts. These posts are on the Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Serious Mental Health problems (Psychosis and Bipolar Disorder or Personality Disorders) at the University of Southampton. Applications are particularly encouraged from people with an interest and knowledge / experience of Cognitive Behavioural therapy. These seven posts will be based in various community services across Kent, serving both working age and older adults.  The post holders will provide formal psychological interventions using newly developed skills whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role. Once the course requirements are met and the post holder has achieved provisional accreditation with the BABCP they will progress to a full time qualified band 7 CBT Psychological Therapist role within the service they trained.

Applicant must have a core profession as outlined in the person specification. Evidence of this will be needed at interview.

 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

This is a transition and training role, which is a fixed term contract. Once the course requirements are met and the post holder has achieved provisional accreditation with the BABCP they will progress to a full time qualified band 7 CBT therapist role. The post holder will work within Working age adult or Older peoples Community Transformed mental health services in KMPT

  • To attend to the training course requirements and undertake all of the below duties under the supervision of a clinical supervisor.
  • Develop psychological formulations for individual patients that contribute towards the overall assessment of their care needs
  • Collaboratively establish individual patients goals towards recovery.
  • Determine suitability of specific psychological interventions, including group and individual modalities, based on the patients assessment/formulation
  • Plan, deliver and review individual and group psychological interventions for specific patients.
  • With service user consent, to video tape clinical sessions for viewing in clinical supervision and for submission for course assignments.
  • Identify gaps within and potential developments of the psychological therapy programme, reporting these to supervisory staff
  • The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities

Trainees will be supported by experienced colleagues and offered a range of opportunities to develop core CBT competencies within the workplace in conjunction with the academic support offered by the course team. You will benefit from clinical supervision on the course and in the workplace, with opportunities for peer support. You will have time for study and assignments built into your job plan. In the first year of the course you will develop your skills with a broad range of clients before specialising in working with people with Psychosis and Bipolar disorder or Personality Disorders in the second year. You will be encouraged to develop areas of interest that are relevant to the clinical work and contribute to service initiatives and development.

  • Worked with people with severe or enduring mental health difficulties and/or other disabilities
  • Experience of working with older people with mental health needs.

  • Experience of working with family and professional carers
  • Experience of working in the NHS.
  • Experience of administering and interpreting specialist psychometric assessments
  • Therapy training and experience

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • High-level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
  • Awareness of psychological issues of later life, the dementias and their impact on individuals and their families.
  • Ability to communicate information sensitively to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and written) accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Knowledge of standardised psychometric assessments

  • Knowledge of the dementias and ways of providing psychological assessment and support.
  • Knowledge and skill in administering, screening measures for dementia and/or depression.
