Job overview
To provide support to the Community Services Director (CSD) by leading on a broad and varied portfolio of work. The post holder will be directly accountable for the IMSK services which is made up of Physiotherapy, Chronic Pain and Orthopaedics and Podiatry Services which includes Podiatry, Podiatric Surgery, Orthotics.
To be accountable as the Divisional Lead for Quality, public and patient engagement and Safeguarding Lead (adults and children) for the Dental and Planned Care Division by initiating and taking action on a range of divisional quality projects.
To provide significant leadership and professional advice enabling high quality services to be delivered to patients by leading patient safety, complaints, risk and medical equipment management as well as the day to day professional effectiveness across the totality of the portfolio.
The post holder will at times take Division-wide responsibilities for other key areas of work to be agreed across the whole Dental and Planned Care portfolio
Main duties of the job
- Accountable for the strategic plan with strategic oversight of the portfolio of Planned Care Services
- Leadership of Quality initiatives and projects
- Safeguarding Lead (adults and children)
- Leadership of public and patient engagement
- Interprets national, regional and local policies to determine how these should be implemented across Planned Care and the division, specifically related to quality
- Assist in identifying strategies to deliver key objectives aligned to the Trust`s We Care Strategy
- Support the design and implementation of portfolio services to ensure they are financially sustainable through budget setting, monitoring and initiating and securing cost improvement programmes
- Support the senior leadership team with direct line management and responsibility for development of the broader Dental and Planned Care Services team
- Support oversight of development, delivery, monitoring and review of service and quality standards, policies and protocols required for effective management of Planned Care pathways
- Promote best practice and standardisation to achieve consistent, high quality services that reduce inequalities
- Provide expertise in relevant areas to support best practice and innovation
- Support the workforce development plan, working with the People & Organisational Development Business Partner
- Identify opportunities for integration with internal and external partners
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation
· Take an analytical approach assessing highly complex information to assist in management of patients for the key work streams
· Provide comprehensive professional advice and leadership on matters to senior colleagues in dealing with multifaceted concerns, complaints, clinical and critical incidents, including chairing hearing panels as required.
Working for our organisation
We are a Senior Leadership Team leading the Dental and Planned Care Division with over 550 staff. The team is led by the Clinical Services Director supported by the Director for Dental Services, the Assistant Director for Business Development and this role the Associate Director for Planned Care. There are also 5 Heads of Service.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Associate Director of Planned Care is accountable to the CSD to lead and ensure the delivery of safe and well led clinical Planned Care services across Kent.
As dedicated lead for Quality, the post holder will lead on quality initiatives and service transformations to meet the divisional and Trust priorities. This will require the post holder to work effectively with senior system leaders and KCHFT Directors.
The postholder will deputise for the CSD in internal and external fora.

Key Result Areas/ Outcomes:
- Maintain strong working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
- Manage challenging situations such as dealing with patient/relative complaints, service transformation or organisational change, where the information conveyed is highly complex, sensitive or contentious and where opinions may differ
- Manage service delivery and evaluation by effectively assessing highly complex data and reports with responsibility for KPIs of portfolio services
- Make service recommendations from the interpretation of integrated financial and activity reports
- Ensure that a culture of continuous improvement and professional curiosity is embedded
- Deliver services that are developed using co-design with patients, representatives and carers
- Ensure that Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions are adhered to throughout the division by ensuring the are understood and correctly implemented
- Meet financial and income targets by budget setting across Planned Care Services
- Ensure services are delivered within the available resources with efficiencies identified
Leadership:
- Work with the Senior Leadership Team to shape future services within the Division ensuring that these are consistent with and recognise the wider aims of the Trust and local health community;
- Role model the values and behaviours of KCHFT colleagues to ensure a culture of positive and effective leadership
- Promote a culture that supports and maximises the contribution of each individual and ensures effective, productive, business focussed team working
- Ensure high performance by supporting, involving and developing the workforce
- Be accountable for the management of workforce issues in portfolio services including recruitment, retention, vacancy control, sickness absence and turnover

Performance Management:
- Service planning and prioritisation including strategic goal setting
- Engendering and maintaining a culture of financial control and recurrent financial awareness amongst all staff
- Ensuring development and delivery of comprehensive Cost Improvement Plans (CIPs) for portfolio services
- Ensure reportable metrics, such as KPIs are monitored and managed effectively, ensuring targets are achieved and actions are taken quickly to address any issues in performance
- Learn from other high performing organisations
- Undertake complex audit and evaluation of services as required
- Support the delivery of research within the directorate as required

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience/qualification or doctorate in addition to extensive knowledge and expertise in delivering successful strategic and operational performance
- Clinical background as a Registered Health Professional
- Evidence of advanced continuing professional development
