Job overview

Title: Training Fellow in Anaesthesia, Critical care and Pain Management

Duration: 2 year fixed term contract

Grade& Salary: Specialty Registrar (ST3 equivalent & onwards) plus banding supplement

The MTI doctors will be covering ITU, Obstetrics and general anaesthesia on a rotation working a shift pattern with ST3s and Specialist Registrars.  The main commitment will be taking a lead in the specialist area on a rotational basis, the cardiac arrest team and in emergencies to support the ST1/2 whilst on-call

Main duties of the job

The MTI doctors are expected to participate in the preoperative assessment of patients undergoing elective or emergency surgery and to attend theatre sessions as indicated on the weekly rota.

 There are six main theatres, one of which is an ORI and 3-day care theatres. All are fully equipped and there are ultra sound and cardiac Doppler monitors available for use. The main theatres are situated next to ITU, A & E and the X-ray Department.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • Full Registration with GMC
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma in Anaesthesia
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent

Essential criteria
  • 3 year experience in anaesthesia
  • An understanding of UK health system.
Desirable criteria
  • 6 months experience in intensive care.

Communication Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, Nursing and Administration staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills.

Leadership Skills

  • Good leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational skills Innovative team player who can accomplish clinical projects in liaison with fellow professional
