Job overview

We’re looking for dynamic and motivated Band 5 RMN  Nurse to Work at St. Martins Hospital, Canterbury. 

The Acute Services serves the community of Kent with assessment and treatment of adults of working age who are suffering from acute mental illnesses. This is a challenging yet rewarding environment and requires excellent organisation skills and the ability to use initiative. As well as working effectively within an experienced and knowledgeable nursing and medical team.

You’ll be experienced in practice, or alternatively may be able to join our preceptorship programme. We have dedicated Preceptorship leads as well as online resources. We also support preceptors to undertake The NHS Leadership Academy, Edward Jenner Programme, an open access online learning package designed for newly qualified clinicians to gain essential leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Carry out comprehensive, systematic nursing assessments which take account of relevant mental, physical, social, cultural, psychological, spiritual, and environmental factors, in partnership with the patient and others through interaction, observation and measurement.
  • Work collaboratively with other disciplines, patients and their carers to agree a holistic person centred care plan that addresses the needs identified through assessment.
  • To deliver and evaluate safe, competent patient centred care in partnership with the service user and their carers to support recovery.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RMN or equivalent
  • Completion of a preceptorship programme
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of post qualification personal and practice development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Pre-registration experience of mental health settings and or working with people with mental health conditions
  • Experience of working within an acute mental health setting
Desirable criteria
  • Some clinical experience of mental health problems

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and experience in working with patients detained under the MHA 1983 (amended 2007)
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to apply relevant legislative frameworks and policies relating to care e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding, Consent to Treatment.
  • A basic understanding and ability to apply principles of risk assessment and risk management.
  • A basic understanding and ability to apply principles of risk assessment and risk management.
  • Effective organisational /planning and decision making skills.
