Main duties of the job

Pharmaceutical Services to Oncology.

  • To lead the strategic planning of pharmaceutical issues relating to Oncology.
  • To supervise and train Pharmacy staff rotating through Oncology.
  • To play a lead Trust role in promoting and developing the optimum use of medicines as per Primary and Secondary policy use of medicines.
  • Be responsible for advising Oncology areas regarding security of medicines and controlled stationery.
  • To contribute to the delivery of the Trust Medicines Value Strategy.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent teaching and presentation skills.
  • The post holder must be able to work effectively as a team member and have drive and enthusiasm
  • The post holder must demonstrate evidence against the Advanced Level Framework to a minimum Communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills should be highly developed as the post holder will be expected to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, relatives, prescribers, clinicians and managers. Tact and negotiation skills to ensure adherence to drug treatment protocols / policies. Excellent time management skills. Organisational and prioritisation skills. Leadership, innovation and motivational skills Analytical and judgmental skills to critically appraise medical literature and patient information for application to highly complex patient care situations. Excellent clinical problem-solving skills. Excellent teaching and presentation skills. The post holder must be able to work effectively as a team member and have drive and enthusiasm. Computing skills using word processing, spread sheet, and Power point packages.
Desirable criteria
  • Patient assessment and diagnostic skills within independent prescribing scope of practice.
  • Advanced IT skills (database, spreadsheets etc.)

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable evidence of clinical pharmacy experience and further study. As a minimum the post holder must demonstrate specialist level pharmaceutical and general background knowledge.
  • SACT knowledge acquired working as a cancer pharmacist

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in haematology clinical work
  • Experience of checking/releasing manufactured chemotherapy.
  • Experience of using electronic prescribing systems for chemotherapy
Desirable criteria
  • Staff and service management experience
