Senior Clinical/Biomedical Scientist

Band 7

Job overview

As a professionally diverse team the philosophy of the Haemostasis and Thrombosis service is to strive for excellence.  We are proud to be accredited by UKAS to ISO 15189:2012 standards, and have just undergone a successful transition inspection to ISO 15189:2022 standards.

We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic and motivated applicants for this part time, fixed-term post for maternity cover (22.5 hours per week)

In this post we can offer you a rewarding, flexible and supportive role, providing a wide scope of haemostasis and thrombosis diagnostic services, using up to date and innovative technology.

You will be joining our team of experienced and dedicated Biomedical Scientists, where you will have the opportunity to work closely with our medical team in the Kent Haemophilia and Thrombosis Comprehensive Care Centre, supporting the operational delivery, training of staff of all grades, informing method development, developing clinical guidelines and potentially taking part in clinical research activities.

The successful candidate should have a high level of analytical and technical skill, including statistical analysis. They should have  considerable and up to date knowledge of current practices and advances in Haematology,  with specific experience in Haemostasis and Thrombosis desirable.

We are looking for Band 7 staff, but Band 6 with extensive levels of haemostasis experience/qualifications will be given consideration

Main duties of the job

The clinical scientists role will be a conduit between the scientific and clinical sides of the service, undertaking laboratory and clinical duty sessions, providing clinical liaison as needed.  Both the clinical scientist or biomedical scientist  if successful will provide technical, managerial and leadership expertise. They will be a key contributor to quality management and improvement, the training of all the departments scientists, and the verification and implementation of new methodologies.

Working for our organisation

We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five
hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’. We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.

Applications for this role should be written by the applicant. If artificial intelligence (AI) programmes are used then the application may be rejected due to this document being an important part of the assessment process. This does not prevent applicants seeking appropriate support with applications should they need to for the purposes of any declared disability.

Please note that if you require a Certificate of Sponsorship to work in the UK you must declare this on your application form, even if you currently have a certificate of sponsorship or a work permit for another role and are already working in the country. Please note we are only able to sponsor candidates on a Skilled Worker Visa applying for roles Band 5 and above.
