Job overview

The successful applicant will support a comprehensive, high quality and efficient surgical service to the surgical and anaesthetic care group by providing robust data, narrative and professional challenge to surgical specialities. The post holder will also provide support and leadership to the site-based theatre audit team.

The impact of this role will ensure patients receive their surgical procedures in a timely manner in accordance with clinical need and trust priorities.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure provision of a comprehensive, high quality and efficient theatre scheduling service to specialities in line with the 6-4-2 process.
  • Monitor tentative schedules and identify gaps in sessions, discrepancies in bookings and contact the appropriate speciality team to confirm or resolve.
  • Ensure that patients are listed on the TheatreMan system appropriately according to individual requirements in line with guidelines and, communicating discrepancies to the relevant specialities for action.
  • Ensure that patients receive their surgical intervention within appropriate times scales according to clinical need and trust priority, ensuring the rapid relisting of patients if required
  • Ensure that high quality information is available for Care Group and external data analysis and reporting. Provide and receive complex information as necessary.
  • Liaise with the Theatre Team Leads weekly and as necessary on theatre lists and identify potential issues with equipment, timing of cases and escalate as required, following up on actions to ensure completion.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Experience of a range of work procedures and practice, including involvement in creating complex rotas and schedules
  • Experience of working for and within a team.
  • Good understanding of appropriate data collection requirements, and participate in the formation of data collection systems
  • Educated to NVQ Level 4 standard, working towards this qualification or demonstrable work experience to this level.
  • Computer literate including Word and Excel.
  • GCSE A-C English or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in theatre services.
  • Contributing to the design and development of standard reports, rotas and schedules.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of working for and within a team and managing the work of a team.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of a range of office work procedures and practice, the majority of which is non-routine.
