An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the growing Network Team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.  The Trust has recently invested significantly in new network technology that supports the organisation in delivering leading clinical services to the residents of Kent, Medway and East Sussex. 

The role would be well-suited to a seasoned hands-on network engineer with an aptitude for learning, that would like to advance their career with exposure to modern technology from class leading vendors.

Main duties of the job

Job summary: 

The post holder will play a key role in the Network Team, providing 3rd line technical expertise and ownership for the Trust’s IT network estate. 

The post holder will have comprehensive knowledge of the following:

•    Wired and wireless networking technologies
•    Subnetting and routing (including BGP, OSPF, ISIS)
•    Cisco switching (Catalyst 9k platform)
•    Cisco datacentre switching (Nexus 9k platform)
•    Network authentication technologies (Cisco ISE, RADIUS, TACACS+)
•    Cisco management products (Cisco ISE, DNA Centre, APIC, Stealthwatch)
•    Cisco wireless (Aireos and IOS XE platform)
•    DHCP and DNS
•    Firewalls (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA)
•    Cybersecurity principles and best practices
•    Change management

You will participate in the day to day support, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of the Trust’s network infrastructure to ensure high availability of clinical and non-clinical IT services. This will also involve participating in an out of hours on call rota.  On occasion, some planed activity may require a flexible attitude to work outside of normal office hours, eg evenings and weekends.

You will take a leading role in developing our network infrastructure and configuration; advising the Network Architect on strategic problems and opportunities; project support for configuration and installation of new infrastructure as well as day-to-day support to enable the Programme Management Team to deliver new projects for the Trust

  • Previous relevant experience of enterprise network technologies not listed
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of DNAC, SDA, APIC, ACI, Trustsec, ISE, Wireless, Palo Alto etc

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 5 years experience in a networking role
Desirable criteria
  • At least 2 years experience in a Senior Networking role

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • CCNA or equivalent from another vendor
Desirable criteria
  • CCNP or higher equivalent from another vendor

Change Management

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in an environment with change management
Desirable criteria
  • Previous ITIL qualification
