Job overview

This post leads the Pharmacy Clinical Service to the General and Specialist Medicine Teams.

On a daily basis you will oversee a team of Senior (5 x 8a pharmacists) and Junior Clinical Pharmacists and Clinical Pharmacy Technicians working in the clinical pharmacy ward service. Note that CQC have issued a 'must do' which will ensure investment in this team over the next couple of years.

There is a unique opportunity to help shape the team and the service that they provide to meet the patient needs with the future workforce.

As a member of the Clinical Pharmacy Leadership team, you will be working closely with the other team Leads and the Lead Clinical Services Pharmacist supporting the overall development of the Pharmacy Clinical Service

We are a team that supports flexible working with >90% of Senior Clinical staff on a flexible working pattern.

Main duties of the job

 

Leading, developing, management and delivery of a proactive and patient focused quality Clinical Pharmacy Service to GSM in and out-patients at all 3 sites.

•       Management directly or indirectly of all Pharmacists working within General & Specialist Medicine

•       Leading and Delivering an effective Medicines Optimisation Service to the General & Specialist Medicine Specialties:

•       Improving all aspects of Medicines Safety

•       Providing expert advice on Medicines to Clinicians, patients and Carers

•       Undertaking research and clinical audit

•       Developing, implementing, clinically govern and risk manage, Policies and Protocols across the Trust.

•       Working closely with the Medicines Value Team to deliver cost-effective medicines.

•       Deputising for the Lead Clinical Services Pharmacist, Director of Pharmacy at Departmental, Trust, local, regional, national or international level where appropriate.

•       Contributing to the vision and development of Pharmacy Clinical Services and associated Workforce

 

Working for our organisation

There has been significant change at EKHUFT Pharmacy, over the last 2 years we have received significant investment to the services that we provide with an increase in WTE and new posts e.g. 

AMS Consultant Pharmacist, ED technicians and the Trust has just received a must do from CQC to extend the clinical pharmacy service directly to Medicine wards. We currently deliver extended services here:

6 day cancer service

7 day clinical service to Acute admissions.

7 day Clinical Service to ITU at WHH

7 day operational service with clinical support.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant senior experience in hospital pharmacy
  • Significant experience in providing highly specialist service to a medical specialty or equivalent
  • Significant experience of successfully managing a pharmacy service / team
  • Teaching, mentoring and tutoring experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in community pharmacy or primary care

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Master’s Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Post graduate diploma / MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or Equivalent
  • Independent Prescriber or working towards this with a view to qualification within 12 months (or willingness to work towards this)
  • Post graduate management qualifications or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Train the trainer’s accreditation or HE KSS /laSE Deanery Practice Supervisors accreditation or equivalent
  • Member of RPS Faculty

Essential criteria
  • Well-developed leadership, organisational, prioritisation, time management, personal effectiveness, analytical and problem solving skills of a consistently high standard, maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Innovation / implementation skills to develop Clinical Services.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills essential to exchange highly complex information to colleagues, patients and relatives, clinicians and senior managers.
  • Ability to develop and implement new policies procedures.

  • Team player with drive and enthusiasm.
  • Computing skills to include a working knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems (e.g. JAC / Adios), the internet, Microsoft Office, Power Point, Word, Access and Excel and patient information systems.
  • Demonstrable evidence of managing change involving staff in a discrete pharmacy area
  • Able to interpret highly complex data and present highly complex information in an informative manner to a wide range of individuals
Desirable criteria
  • Proven track record of successful budget management.
  • Patient assessment and diagnostic skills within independent prescribing scope of practice.
  • Influencing and managing a change in service at a Trustwide level
