Job overview

We are looking for applicants to join our friendly immunology laboratory team as a band 3 Senior Assistant Healthcare Scientist. Duties include specimen reception, data entry, preparing samples for analysis, loading samples onto analysers, general maintenance and stock control.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent and have some previous experience of handling samples in a laboratory or sample reception.  They should possess good keyboard skills and a high level of accuracy with a keen eye for detail. 

Kent and Medway Pathology Network (KMPN) is a formal partnership of seven laboratories across three pathology services in four acute Trusts. Our 1000 colleagues provide services across the health and care sector to a population of nearly 2 million.

You will have a fantastic opportunity to grow your career in KMPN.  We are developing a network academy, a platform for all network education and training from apprenticeships to advanced clinical and scientific qualifications with a single faculty making best use of our talented educators and trainers.  You will not be expected to work at sites outside of EKHUFT.  However, there will be opportunities for collaborative working within the network.

Person specification

Knowledge and personal/professional attributes

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working in a hospital laboratory or sample reception area.
  • Understanding of UKAS and / or MHRA.
Desirable criteria
  • Some knowledge of Biology and / or General Science.

Clinical Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good literacy and numeracy.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to multi task.
  • Good computer and keyboard skills.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Ability to achieve set targets within a specified timeframe.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable supervisory skills.

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • A good standard of education eg Mathematics, English and Science GCSE or equivalent NVQ 3 or ‘A’ Level equivalent.
