Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Cellular Pathology

An opportunity has arisen for the position of a specialist biomedical scientist in our cellular pathology department at William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, which processes over 55,000 requests per annum and employs over 70 staff.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated HCPC registered biomedical scientist with a BSc in biomedical sciences or equivalent and a successfully completed IBMS specialist portfolio in histopathology, non-gynae cytology.

Working as part of a team, you will possess excellent organisational and communication skills. You must be flexible in your approach to working, able to work well on your own initiative as well as providing guidance to support other team members as required, working across the whole of cellular pathology including training in and participation in our andrology service. We are a UKAS accredited medical laboratory against ISO: 15189:2012, that holds an HTA Licence and are an IBMS training laboratory.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the pathology team at the Trust and to help shape future strategy and services for our local population.

You are expected to support the day-to-day operation of throughput in histological dissection, non-gynae cytological preparation, processed tissue embedding, microtomy, special stains, immunohistochemistry and assistance in UKNEQAS schemes. You will also undertake analytical, technical and administrative troubleshooting to ensure reliable service delivery. In addition, the performance of quality audits and the research and participation in development / implementation of new procedures are essential to support service improvements and development.

The post holder would also be expected to contribute to all areas of cellular pathology throughput when necessary, as required by the demands of service provision and maintain all skills of a specialist biomedical scientist.

Knowledge
