Consultant Cardiologist (interest in Cardiovascular MRI)
Consultant
Job overview
Cardiology in East Kent Hospitals is one of the largest services in the South East, is the regional heart attack centre for Kent and Medway and the highest volume non-surgical PCI centre in the UK.
We are regional leaders in Advanced Cardiac Imaging. Our echocardiography (echo), Cardiovascular CT and Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CME) services are already highly developed. In addition to providing all modes of stress echo and 3D-TOE, Physiologist-delivered stress scanning and Physiologist-led valve clinics are an integral part of our service, and we are a regional training hub for both medical and scientific staff. We work closely with Radiology to deliver high-volume cardiac CT, being early adopters of CT angiography in the assessment of chest pain. Our CMR service currently provides approximately 650 local scans per year with plans to more than double this capacity, and this post will support that increase in commissioned CMR and develop Radiographer-delivered reporting services. A Siemens Aera 1.5T system facilitates the provision of a full complement of adult CMR scanning indications (including stress perfusion quantification techniques and 4D-flow), as well as off-line and off-site reporting using Circle CVI42 software. The imaging service supports complex PCI, device, valve, heart failure, endocarditis and oncology services.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will primarily help to expand our local CMR service/s, and ideally would also be involved with complex echocardiography [stress echo, TOE plus valve and endocarditis service/s]. However, other specialist interests, such as Heart Failure and/or Inherited Cardiac Conditions would also be considered desirable in order to create a workable skill-set mix for the needs of the Cardiology service as a whole.
It is expected that any successful applicant will participate fully in the local cardiology audit, governance and education programme and attend regional pPCI meetings.
There will be an expectation of occasional travel to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital at Margate.
Working for our organisation
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with three acute hospitals and community sites serving a local population of around 700,000. We also provide specialist services for Kent and Medway.
We’re on an exciting journey of transformation. With a new Medical School at the centre of our community, a focus on research, clinical leadership and making our trust a rewarding and friendly place to work, there’s never been a better time to join us.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be expected to participate in the day to day running of the department at the William Harvey site.
